The V3 keeps the mechanics that made the V2 what it is and replaces the control layer with hardware COG designs and builds in-house. Same platform, same architecture, same 50 mm shaft — driven now by the Actuon8 motion controller.
Why heave is the threshold
A platform that only pitches and rolls has a geometric problem. To simulate braking it tilts the seat forward, moving you toward the wheel and breaking the fixed distance between your body and the controls that your muscle memory depends on.
Heave — the whole rig moving vertically — does not have that problem. It is what puts kerbs, elevation changes and suspension compression under you rather than around you. The V3 delivers 0–150 mm of heave in its base configuration. There is no second set of actuators to buy later.
What changes in V3
The mechanical system is unchanged. What is new is the control chain:
- Actuon8 Motion Controller — COG's own control electronics, replacing the third-party controller. Up to eight control channels from a single unit.
- Actuon-SIB safety module — the safety interface of the Actuon control layer. Sits between the controller and the servo drives and interrupts their enable signal on demand, removing drive torque.
The control chain runs at 500 Hz: a fresh command reaches every actuator every 2 ms, independently of your PC or the title you are running.
Engineered around thrust
The V3 pairs 750 W servo motors with 5 mm pitch ball screws in direct drive, and that pairing is a deliberate engineering choice. It puts the motor's torque into force at the actuator rather than into travel speed.
The result is a platform that moves 300 kg+ and holds it — a full-size cockpit, a driver, triple screens and the whole rig — without running out of authority at the moment it matters, which is under braking and through weight transfer. Heavy cockpits are a force problem before they are a speed problem, and the V3 is built for the loads that a real installation puts on it.
Choose your motion software
The V3 is supplied with the software option you select at checkout. Motion software is a priced option: the system is offered at three prices, one per choice, and the licence for the edition you select is supplied with it at that price.
Both ACM editions permit commercial use. The difference between them is capability, not permission.
SimHub Compatible. The V3 is built to work with SimHub, the route many owners already know. SimHub is an independent product: its software and any licence it requires come from its developer, and no ACM licence is supplied with this option. Operating the system commercially on SimHub follows SimHub's own licence terms, while the two ACM editions carry COG's commercial permission directly.
Actuon Control Manager — Standard Edition. COG's own motion software, with broad title compatibility, real-time telemetry processing, per-axis calibration, hardware diagnostics and automatic device detection. Configured for the system out of the box: unpack, install, drive. Commercial use permitted.
Actuon Control Manager — Professional Edition. Everything in Standard, plus the tools for working on the system rather than only with it: the analysis engine, full-rate capture and replay, run-to-run comparison, deep hardware diagnostics, 3D visualisation and actuator tuning, and the External API with reference projects for Unreal Engine 5, Unity 6 and Godot. Commercial use permitted.
Which one do you need? SimHub or Standard will drive the V3 properly. Professional changes how you tune it: record a session, replay it with no game running, and compare two settings against each other in numbers instead of deciding by feel. The 3D view shows what each actuator is doing while it does it, and the diagnostics report the state of your own machine rather than leaving you to infer it from how it drives.
